Most nationalities require a visa to enter Tanzania. The good news is that the process is generally straightforward — Tanzania offers an e-Visa system that allows you to apply online before travel, avoiding queues at the airport.
Tanzania's eVisa system (evisa.immigration.go.tz) allows citizens of most countries to apply online before travel. The tourist visa is typically issued for a single entry with up to 90 days stay.
Tanzania also offers visa on arrival at major international airports including Kilimanjaro International Airport (JRO) and Julius Nyerere International Airport in Dar es Salaam. However, using the eVisa is strongly recommended to avoid waiting in airport queues.
Citizens of several African countries and some Commonwealth nations may enter Tanzania without a visa. Check with the Tanzania Immigration Department for the current list.
If you are travelling from a yellow fever endemic country, you will need a valid yellow fever vaccination certificate. Even if not required by your origin country, it is recommended as a health precaution.
Zanzibar is a semi-autonomous region of Tanzania. Your Tanzania visa covers entry to Zanzibar. However, you will need to present your passport and may be required to complete a separate entry form when travelling between the mainland and Zanzibar.
