Prison Island (Changuu Island) Tour

Overview

Prison Island — officially Changuu — is a small coral island 25 minutes by dhow from Stone Town. Named for its 19th-century history as a planned slave quarantine station (it was never used as a prison), the island is now famous for its colony of giant Aldabra tortoises, some over 100 years old. Snorkelling the surrounding reef is excellent.
